Yesterday, in honour of the International Day of Zero Tolerance to FGM/C, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Africa-Led Movement to End FGM/C (ALM) held a panel event at FCDO offices. The ALM is a programme funded by the UK government designed to eliminate FGM/C in Kenya.

The breakfast gathering hosted dozens of prominent global and UK-based organisers and activists. The event celebrated collective efforts to end FGM/C and also gave space to panel members working in Africa who shared their lived experiences and offered solutions for communities across the world.

Our Advisory Board Member Dr Leyla Hussein OBE led the conversation alongside FCDO professionals, later opening up the forum for discussion. Our CEO Sema Gornall and our Co-founder Hoda Ali were present and contributed their expertise as the heads of our London-based programmes.

Dedication from all sectors is necessary if FGM/C is to be eradicated by 2030 – per global commitments under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Government collaborations like these add visibility and urgency to the movement to end FGM/C, and we are proud to be part of coordinated efforts between survivors and decision-makers.
